Ask A Tico

Our Tico: Mario Calderon is a native-born Costa Rican who has lived across the country, from the capital city of San Jose to the beaches of Guanacaste to the mountains of the northern region. He worked and attended high school in the United States, learning both the fluidity of the English language and an understanding of American culture.

Mario is a trusted guide to help you navigate various interactions that can be difficult for those not accustomed to the Costa Rica culture and language. Translation apps just don’t cut it when it comes to deciphering highly used Costa Rican slang!
